Agenda: Friday, Dec. 11, 2009

Quote of the Day: "When you quit something it starts a habit. Don't ever quit." - Anon.

We will present College Video projects in the junior class and then have time to study for finals with classmates.

The sophomores will present their people/questions that they are targeting for the Road Trip Nation interviews that they will do this spring.

We also watched this video. A reminder that we should not quit until this semester is over!

Did You Know? Videos

Earlier this week we were going to watch an episode of Road Trip Nation but the Internet was down. So I pulled out the New Did You Know 4.0 video.

How do you feel about our rapidly changing society? How do stats like "there are 240 million TV sets in America and 2 Million of them are in bathrooms!" -and- there are as many Facebook users as Americans! Over 300 Million.

Crazy, huh?

Freshmen Spring 2009 Video

It was a great spring. I'm looking forward to recharging my batteries this spring and coming back ready to go in the fall. Thanks to everyone for their hard work, dedication and commitment to improving. It is all going to pay off!

I'll miss you guys that are going to Summer Creek High. And I will miss the bunch of you deciding not to take AVID next year. Although that saddens me very much, I also know that all the things that come to us we have to take in a positive way.

The video is password protected. If you would like to see it, please shoot me an email and I'll send you the password.

40 Inspirational Speeches in 2 Minutes

40 Inspirational Speeches in 2 Minutes

We took a look at it today to begin our semester. And boy were we inspired!

Transcript:
Shame on you. This could be the greatest night of our lives, but you’re going to let it be the worst. And I guarantee a week won’t go by in your life you won’t regret walking out, letting them get the best of you. Well, I’m not going home. We’ve come too far! And I’m going to stay right here and fight for this lost cause. A day may come when the courage of men fails… but it is not THIS day. The line must be drawn HERE. This far, no further! I’m not saying it’s going to be easy. You’re going to work harder than you ever worked before. But that’s fine, we’ll just get tougher with it! If a person grits his teeth and shows real determination, failure is not an option. That’s how winning is done! Believe me when I say we can break this army here, and win just one for the Gipper. But I say to you what every warrior has known since the beginning of time: you’ve got to get mad. I mean plum mad dog mean. If you would be free men, then you must fight to fulfill that promise! Let us cut out their living guts one inch at a time, and they will know what we can do! Let no man forget how menacing we are. We are lions! You’re like a big bear, man! This is YOUR time! Seize the day, never surrender, victory or death… that’s the Chicago Way! Who’s with me? Clap! Clap! Don’t let Tink die! Clap! Alright! Let’s fly! And gentlemen in England now abed shall know my name is the Lord when I tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they’ll never take our Independence Day!
This was indeed a lovely think to behold!

So what is your favorite inspirational speech? (leave a comment - hint, hint...)

2 Million Minutes

I am very much looking forward to seeing this documentary:

The world I grew up in was basically an American Economy. Today it is a World Economy. And our students need to recognize where they are and the kind of demands just a few years time will put on them. It is changing rapidly. I am afraid, for some in America, they will not recognize this change until it is too late.

So, you spend 2 million minutes of time during your high school career. How will you use those minutes?

Another AVID Video

Here is another video. It's a bit silly, but you do get an understanding of what it is like.

An AVID Video

I would really like for the AVID kids to create a video next year. Hopefully student written, directed, filmed and produced. The goal would be to explain AVID in a fun and interesting way. And to explain AVID specifically at AHS.

This is a video that I found on Youtube that is a bit of an inspiration for this project:
